Tierra Amarilla is an exploration of warmth, memory, and place. Layers of ochre, gold, and muted earth tones create a quiet visual landscape that recalls sunlit adobe walls, high-desert soil, and the enduring beauty of Northern New Mexico..
With Tierra Amarilla, I sought to capture the subtle beauty found in the colors of the high desert. Built through numerous layers of acrylic paint, the surface reveals traces of earlier marks, textures, and forms that emerge and recede like fragments of memory.
The warm tone-on-tone palette of ochres, golden yellows, and weathered earth tones was inspired by the landscape and architecture of Northern New Mexico, where sunlight seems to transform ordinary surfaces into something timeless. Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting suggests the feeling of place—the sensation of standing before an adobe wall that has absorbed decades of wind, dust, and sunlight.
Small geometric forms appear throughout the composition like remnants of human presence, while the textured surface invites close inspection and contemplation. The result is a beautifully framed piece that balances simplicity and complexity, offering new discoveries the longer one spends with it.
Tierra Amarilla is an invitation to slow down, look closely, and experience the quiet poetry hidden within color, texture, and time.
